I really enjoy Christmas. I enjoy the time I spend with my family doing fun things, eating awesome food and just generally enjoying each others time. One of my favourite parts - ever since I was a child -was the opening of presents. Everyone would open their presents one at a time and we would all see what each person got and comment and just have some fun. Usually this time lasts about two hours!
When I was younger I use to count the number of presents I received, just to see if I got more than, or the same as my cousins. As I got older this little tradition of gift counting got less and less until this year where I am hoping to count gifts again and I am hoping I receive nothing.
This year I do not want any Christmas presents, however, in its place I do want my family to donate to the charities I support. Instead of giving me gifts, I've requested that they give to those charities or to church. I feel that as I get older my taste in things have changed and I don't really use a lot of the presents that I receive. I do enjoy the presents and I do appreciate the thoughtfulness that went into giving me something, yet, for some reason I think I'd find more joy in knowing that the money that would have been spent on me is put to better use in helping many people who are in more need.
Maybe I should finish this off, instead of leaving it hanging like that, but I don't know if I can explain well enough what is going through my head, so maybe I'll leave it for another day.

That's neat
I hope that if someone can't resist blessing you personally with something, you will be able enjoy it.
@Pickwick12@xanga - lol well, I'm sure I'll still enjoy it :) I'm just a very odd person when it comes to gifts! It's not the thing I look forward to anymore, I rather the time, so whether I receive or not isn't a HUUUUGE deal.
@shanella - I hear you, but for people who show love by giving gifts, as a primary part of their love language, I think it means a lot (I'm not like that, but that's my understanding).
You seem to be more of a quality time person, which I am, too.
@Pickwick12@xanga - I'm definitely a quality time sort of person. Actually I think gifts is the lowest of mine. I think the reason I asked to give to charity this year though is just because something like that would make me happy ... that we are doing something good ... or affecting some kind of change. It's very hard to describe.
@shanella - I completely agree! Giving to charity is a fantastic way to make a difference.
My parent stopped giving me Christmas gifts last year... because I've started working. *Heaves a small sigh*
@bella_esperanza - awww!!!! send me your address I'll send you a christmas gift! :)
