  • Peanuts on Doing the Right Thing

In the Charlie Brown and Snoopy show, Linus decided to give Snoopy his blanket to keep and asked Snoopy not to give it back to him. Snoopy didn't give it back to him no matter how much he begged, Snoopy even made it into sport coats. Charlie Brown, seeing his friend's pain and knowing that his dog destroyed the blanket, hastily tried to make amends by purchasing him another blanket. Meanwhile, Linus has kicked the habit because of Snoopy's denial of blanket act.
Upon seeing each other again, Charlie Brown, before he could hear that Linus kicked the habit, pushes a new blanket on him, thereby reversing the progress that Linus made. The quote I loved in this skit was :

Lucy : (in her psychiatric booth, consoling Charlie Brown
after accidentally re-hooking Linus on security blankets
after he kicked his habit on his own):
    In all of mankind's
history, there has never been more damage done than by people
who thought they were doing the right thing. Five cents, please.

below is part of that show -- the above quote comes closer to the end:

I know I've been guilty of doing things because I thought it was the right thing to do only to find out it was just so very wrong. Many of the times it was to do with my temper ... I have a most horrible one ... and I'm always reminded to be slow to anger only after the fact. In my anger I make a decision which I think is correct and then later regret it. It's a personal struggle, but I am happy to say that it's getting less and less of a struggle now.
