  • Out with the old, In with the new

Have you ever woken up one day and the light shines on you and the angels sing in in chorus and the birds chirped as you received a revelation from God?
Yeah .. me neither, but this morning came pretty close. Minus the angels and the birds there was a light shining on me (the sunlight) and I did receive a revelation! I was very excited. See, I was reading this passage in Mark in preperation for an event this coming week. The passage is Mark 2: 18 - 22

Now John's disciples and the Pharisees were fasting. Some
people came and asked Jesus, "How is it that John's disciples
and the disciples of the Pharisees are fasting, but yours are not?"
Jesus answered, "How can the guests of the bridegroom fast
while he is with them? They cannot, so long as they have him
with them. But the time will come when the bridegroom will be
taken from them, and on that day they will fast.No one sews a
patch of unshrunk cloth on an old garment. If he does, the new
piece will pull away from the old, making the tear worse. And
no one pours new wine into old wineskins. If he does, the wine
will burst the skins, and both the wine and the wineskins will be
ruined. No, he pours new wine into new wineskins."

And I always wonder, what did he mean by the parable of the garment and the wineskins? I always took it in that concept and even though I read about it from other people's messages and such I just never "got" it, ya know? This morning, I didn't even know it was on my mind, but I think I finally GOT it.

The Pharisees, they wanted to know why the disciples weren't keeping up with the traditions. Why were they not fasting? Washing their hands? etc. And here is Jesus tearing down their traditions left and right.
You have the Son of God living amoung you and with you, why do you need to fast? You can't hold on to those old traditions anymore, if you do then you wouldn't be able to accept this new life with the Son, it will not work out.

Then I remembered what it reminded me of ... many times I try keeping hold of my old nature, the old man, letting him rule my life but that's not what Jesus wants from me. He wants me to let Him work to put that old nature aside and to let the new life I have in Him shine through and that will never happen if I keep on holding on to the old life I had.

    I couldn't help but be amazed .. .

    yay!

Whoa, thank you for sharing that because this is a passage I have gotten stuck on as well. I think I remember learning this a long time ago but I had forgotten what it really meant. Thank you for reminding me!!
